Saki's worries --- understand more about the Japanese culture

Today I have a long chat with Saki on MSN. She is still staying in the Tatham Hall of York University. As she is onlined in the midnight (afternoon in HK), I cannot help my myself to chat with my close Japanese sister. Not out of my expectation, many guys have a crush on her since she is so cute£¨¤«¤ï¤¤¤Ç¤¹¤ì£©and¡¡beautiful. Today it is the first time for me to hear that she is sad. She develops a strong affection towards a Indonesian and their relationship has already exceeded "friend".. Thus she feel very guilty to his Japanese bf and decide to keep a distance from the Indonesian adn tell the truth to her bf.

Due to different cultures, our perceptions towards the issus are different. As Akiko said, Japanese are so concerned about how others feel so they only act in the way that others like or prefer,  Saki are too focused on how others feel and she does not consider her feelings. She just blames herself. Indeed, it is not wrong for her to develop a strong liking or affection for that guy. It is just normal feeling. You know it is full of temptation and seduction in this world.

The 7th week back to school

It's has been a long time after I came back from Canada and I don't really have much time to continue writing the diary. Indeed there is a lot of things that I want to record since this summer holidays is really meaningful to me and the memory will be engraved in my heart forever. I will never forget the trip to Montreal, Toronto and the Niagara Fall. I will miss my talkative elder, Saki, Ali from Japan, a brilliant English writer, Tesfer from Ethopia, Sammi and Amr from Saudi Arabia, beautiful Korean girls Bomi and Minjung. I also enjoy the company of my borther Kelvin as he also accompanied me to go shopping in Toronto. Having exposed to another culture is full of fun. I became more interested in learning and appreciating others' culture. Here are the episodes that I will never forget.

Saudia Arabia (Amr and Sammi)

It is really a good chance for me to talk with Sammi in the common room. He is so talkative and makes me laugh a lot. He comes from a more open city in Saudi Arabia and he is a Muslim. Grace always laughs at his tight clothes and trousers. Maybe this is the male clothing style in Saudi Arabia. Sammi is already graduated from university majoring in marketing and 1 year older than me. He draws a picture and introduces me different parts in Saudi Arabia. The people living near the capital is usually more open but some are really close-minded, just like his friend Mosup who don't like to talk to girls. I am quite impressed by his view about the 911. There must be good Muslims and bad Muslims and he is quite sad about Ladin (also born in Saudi Arabia) who initiated the terririst attack in USA. Then we discussed if there is a God controlling our lives and everything. As a Muslim, Sammi believes that Allah is the God who create human beings and the whole world. Though I still think everything is natural in this world, I am a bit stimulated by him. Amr also says that Muslims believe there will be a better lives after death. When asked if he will marry 4 wives, he immediately says one has already makes him feel like headaches. Sammi also mixed up Thailand and Hong Kong. He thinks Thailand = Hong Kong and gives me his friend's call no. for me to see. Though there is communication barrier between each other, I feel he is really nice and interesting.

Tiring day!!

Wednesday is always the busy day. After the attending the fully packed lesson, we have our inauguartion of English Club today. This is the second time to wear suit this week. I hate wearing suit. It is really inconvenient, especially wearing in this kind of weather. So hot. When having the venue setup with Rachel and May, my sweat keep dropping down but we cannot put it off. Yesterday Gary was very interesting. He asked me if I wore ¥ø»â suit. What a funny description!! I wonder how it looks like if it is wore by people. More professional? or more Silly?

Today we have a good time together. We chat for a long time and take a lot of photos. Though there are only few people joining the Big Month Corner, the atmosphere is quite good. After the inauguration, our foots are really pained. You know the suit shoes are so tight. It takes Germen and I a rather long time to walk from PolyU to hall. Really exhaused !! Therefore I take a short snap and then eat the instant noodles again. Recently I always feel my stomache is empty and want to eat many many things.

On the other hand, the VLSP really annoyed me. Actually I feel very happy to work with May and Rosemary as they are very helpful and easy to make compromise. These days May is busy for choosing the candidates for joining the programme. Indeed I think it is an interesting job as we can choose those we like most. After hearing many participants quit the programme, it really make MAy and I worry. We really don't know who to choose. We donno who is suitable. Soemtimes I really want to choose it randomly and avoid all the troublesoem stuff. Donno May also have this feeling??

Another problem is the quotation from CITS air service. Their effeciency is low ar. We need to wait for 2 weeks to get the quoatation and I need to remind Terry to fax us every day. It is really an annoying job. Today Anna are not satisfied with the prices which is $100 higher than last year. She asked me to negotiate with Terry again. ai..I really donno how to talk to Terry la. It seems that he has no heart to provide us the service. If I call another company to send us the quotation, it will take us another week. God...I hope he can make concession la.

Though it is tired, it is a happy day to work with everyone today.

When can I take a good rest?

MM present!

Yesterday we got an A in our Management presentation. It was the first time for us to wear suit and have the presentation in our course. Kristal, Sola, Alice and I squeaked crazily when we found that our grade is quite satisfactory.

Observation the interviewees of VLSP

It is nearly the end of semester B and today is week 12. Normally it is very busy near the end of Year 1. I am a bit free this week even I spend much time on the interview of the project VLSP.

I am very happy to be the interviewer as I felt as if I got the utmost power. I really enjoy the moment to question the interviewees and make some challenging follow-up questions as I love seeing their reaction and response. What a interesting job!! Ya, there is no doubt that year-three students are much more mature than year-one students, no matter in the way of thinking, speaking and their attitude. To stand out from the other interviewees, I think the most important is that we should have our own insights that is unique and to the point. I guess this should be developed from our experience. Today I am really impressed by one year-three participates studying Marketing. She is quite pretty, smart, mature and her points are really good. She stated the reason for joining the program is that education is very important and every children should be treated equally. It really sounds meaninglful and shows her in-depth understanding towards this program. Suddenly I develop awesome feeling towards the marketing students. So bright! The selling skills are brilliant.

Besides, the three EBC year-one students really us a bad impression during the interview. Though they are also from English Department, I cannot find anything that they are worth participating..so inserious ...so much hesitation...and seems donno what we are going to do in the program. Finally we decide to kick them out. Indeed the attitude of interview is very important.

In the end, we discuss the quality of participates and decide who to choose with May, Gary and Rosemary. I find that actually we are all subjective and we get different opionions towards, especially those performace are average. Thus we have to make compromise. Indeed, what I think is one interview cannot see many many things. There is no absolute fairness in the interview as everyone has his own perception and may base on his own intuition.

Imagine I were the participates in the interview, I think I must be the one who will be kicked out. So I always remind myself to be lenient to others but strict to myself. And try to put myself into their shoes.
